VLC media player

The VLC media player is an open source media player, distributed under the GPL. It is a highly portable multimedia player, encoder and streamer that supports many audio and video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs and various streaming protocols.
It is able to stream over networks and to transcode multimedia files and save them into various different formats.
The last version of VLC 0.8.6 as already about 3,100,000 downloads.

If you have Ubuntu, simply type the next sentence to install it.
sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-* mozilla-plugin-vlc

I also use it, but in windows, plays everything i want.

When using ubuntu and trying to play video using VLC I just get ‘no video’. I read somewhere this was fixed in 7.04?

That is strage, do you have the codecs installed?
I have the gstreamer, libxine-extracodecs and w32codecs packages installed and have no problems.
