Pidgin 2.0 Debs
10 May 2007 – 4:12 pmTime to remove Gaim from your system , and install the new Pidgin 2.0 .
For those you don’t know yet, Pidgin is the new name of the Gaim project .
Removing Gaim:
sudo apt-get remove gaim
Installing Pidgin :
- Download the .deb of Pidgin HERE
- Plugins : Guifications Or LibNotify

is it ok to remove ubuntu-desktop and the others that removing gaim will get rid of?

There is no problem removing the Ubuntu-desktop package, its just a meta-package, used to install the base system of ubuntu.
