Vote for your favorite Wine Bug!

Copying what was said in the dev mailing list of Winehq :

The 1.0 release of Wine is tenatively scheduled for he 15th anniversary of the project (roughly 1 June 2008, if you take Dan Dulitz’ message as the start of the project,
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.linux/msg/7f92abdf494ab8b3 )

Over the last six or so months, the wine developers have identified 180 or so bugs as possibly being worth fixing
before the 1.0 release.

63 of the Wine 1.0 bugs have already been fixed:
http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?target_milestone=1.0.0&resolution=FIXED

101 are left to fix:
http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?target_milestone=1.0.0&resolution=—

We can’t fix all of these before the 1.0 release; we’ll have to leave some for later. If you want a say in which of these bugs get fixed sooner, please vote for your favorite bugs. To do this:

- sign into Bugzilla (you need to register, but that’s easy)
- pull up your favorite bug from the above list,
- click on the ‘Vote for this bug’ link on the bug.

OpenXML (docx,…) suport in OpenOffice

*Update*

OpenOffice 2.3 already can open .docx files, just right-click and select to Open With OpenOffice.

*****

I’m starting to get .docx in my mail lately ( against my will…) and not using Microsoft Office and not beeing able to ask people to send at least .doc, I had to do some search to give some support do OpenOffice to this “format”.

Novell has created an OpenXML Translator for OpenOffice, and I found this guide at sigmundvoid. (I’ve just made some small changes)

This was tested in Ubuntu 7.04 “Feisty Fawn”

1- First you need to have ‘alien’ installed, an rpm to deb converter.

$ sudo apt-get install alien

2 - Grab yourself the Odf converter RPM, from here.

3 - Now lets convert it like this:

$ alien -ct odf-converter-1.0.0-5.i586.rpm

You will end up with a .tgz file.

Extract it to a directory:

$ tar -zxvf odf-converter-1.0.0.tgz

Now its time to copy a few files to allow us to open up our .docx file.

sudo cp usr/lib/ooo-2.0/program/OdfConverter /usr/lib/openoffice/program/

sudo cp usr/lib/ooo-2.0/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Filter/MOOXFilter_cpp.xcu /usr/lib/openoffice/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Filter/

sudo cp usr/lib/ooo-2.0/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Types/MOOXTypeDetection.xcu /usr/lib/openoffice/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Types/

OpenOffice is now compatible with the docx “format”.

In notice : PLEASE don’t send docx, at least .doc if you dont like standards…

3G em Linux - made simple

Preferencias - Kanguru - Vodafone Mobile Connect Card

Pronto é so ir ao site da aplicação e fazer download para a tua Distribuição

Wine-doors 0.1

In May, when I first talked about this project, the project was in its beginning, now its First Stable release is out!

It was announced on the 5th of July, and you can download the Tarball or Debian file:

Current Release: Wine-Doors 0.1 (Vinegar Finger)
Tarball
Debian/Ubuntu

I still think its a great ideia, creating simple interface to install software with wine in a automated way.

Try it out.

Google Linux Software Repositories

Today I’ve discoverd the Google Linux Software Repositories, available for:

  • Apt Based distros : Ubuntu 7.04 & Debian 4.0
  • Rpm Based Distros : OpenSuse, Fedora, Mandriva

Easy way to install google software on Linux and to keep it up-to-date.

Nice play by Google in my opinion.
