aMSN with Anti-Aliasing (Script)

January 8, 2007 – 6:44 pm

From Vuen @ Ubuntuforums

Why should one use a ugly aMSN?

Vuen has created a script to compile aMSN with Anti-Aliasing. That means its easy and no trouble!

The final result should look something like this:

aMSN with Anti-Aliasing

Just do this:

wget www.guiaubuntupt.org/files/fixamsn.sh
chmod +x fixamsn.sh
./fixamsn.sh

And wait :)

Notes:

  • The beta Tcl and Tk will be compiled and installed into /usr/local; it will not replace your existing Tcl and Tk installation, so it should be much safer to use and easier to revert than other methods. If the script fails for whatever reason, your existing aMSN installation will not be harmed.
  • If aMSN complains about a missing TLS library when you try to log in, choose “Don’t download TLS, I’ll install it myself”, then click Account->Preferences->Advanced, and in the Other section there will be a box labeled TLS; paste this in it: /usr/lib/tls1.50

  4. Hugly can also be used, even though it’s a ‘urban’ word.

iGama, I use Visual Spell Checker plugin for Wordpress, you should consider giving it a try. Makes like easier.

  5. There is a Ubuntu package to install anti-aliasing without compile anything :

Add this line in /etc/apt/sources.list :
    deb http://srvremi.free.fr/ubuntu feisty main
    or
    deb http://srvremi.free.fr/ubuntu edgy main

    Next run :
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install amsn-aa
